Unified Champion Schools
While Unified Champion Schools still uses sport as its foundation, it adds two elements to its programming: working with populations with and without intellectual disabilities together and providing resources and opportunities in the academic areas of the school. UCS strives to “unify” the students through sport, in the classroom, and in any other extra curriculars, and also seeks to work with teachers and administrators to support them and provide opportunities for them to help their students in a more inclusive environment. The programming aims to build community, reduce bullying, and promote social inclusion.
UCS wants to understand the needs of each school, so we can best serve and support these schools for what best fits them. Everything done with Special Olympics and Unified Champion Schools is free, and it exists solely to support each school and to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for each individual.
